Swedish Defence Forces' Canine Service Unit is looking for a Dog Trainer
The Air Force Warfare School (LSS) is the Air Force's joint competence centre for education and development. Located at LSS are the Air Force schools, the Air Force Development Unit, and the Swedish Defence Forces' Canine Service Unit. LSS plays a crucial role in the development and growth of the future Air Force.
About the Unit
The Swedish Defence Forces' Canine Service Unit (FHTE) belongs to LSS and is responsible for the production, follow-up, and coordination of service dogs in the Swedish Defence Forces "from breeding planning to operational teams". FHTE is tasked with developing the canine service and supplying the Defence Forces' combat units with service dogs that meet the high standards set by the Defence Forces. Together with dog handlers, the service dogs are trained for missions within the Swedish Defence Forces, both nationally and internationally.
FHTE is now looking for a dog trainer to be based in Märsta, Sigtuna.
About the Position
The work is primarily carried out outdoors and is physically demanding, requiring good physical fitness and mental endurance. Evening and weekend work is common. To succeed in this role, you need to have good knowledge of various training methods and be able to adapt them to the needs of each individual dog.
Main Responsibilities
- Train service dogs (patrol and/or search dogs)
- Be responsible for the daily care and maintenance of service dogs
- Document training in an IT environment
- Plan, conduct, and follow up on your own training
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of verified training experience within military units, service, utility, or documented competition experience in at least lower classes or equivalent.
- Category B driver's license (manual transmission)
- Good familiarity with working in an IT environment
- Good ability to communicate verbally and in writing in Swedish and English

The position requires you to plan and be responsible for the dog's training based on set delivery dates, which presupposes your ability to work under time pressure with continuous follow-up and review.
Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.
Merits
- Trainer education, dog handler education (military or civilian) or equivalent
- Experience in service dog training
- Experience with scent detection/nosework
- Practical experience in dog training at combat units with canine operations or equivalent
- Experience with resource-strong dogs of the utility dog type
- Documented competition experience in tracking, patrol, or scent detection
- International experience in service dog operations
